WHO WE ARE

A global pandemic. A stressed national food system. Economic devastation. Millions of hungry families.

MAFRAC rose to meet it

LAUNCHED IN 2020

The Mid-Atlantic Food Resilience and Access Coalition (MAFRAC) launched in March 2020 to respond to the food system crisis caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic. We brought together farmers, business people, nonprofits, and logistics experts to create a new cooperative network to rebuild the frayed food system in the Mid-Atlantic.

ADVOCATING & REBUILDING

MAFRAC reached out to generous funders with a mission and vision to resource, connect and empower our stakeholders. Through these connections, our stakeholders were able to source healthy, culturally appropriate food from local farmers, benefiting residents in need and farmers and food businesses whose markets had dried up, literally overnight.

CONNECT WITH US

“What do you have and what do you need?” In 2020, these questions launched a local food revolution -- a community-driven response to addressing two crises in the food system highlighted by the pandemic: the rising number of families dependent on emergency food, and the farms and restaurants facing economic ruin. MAFRAC stepped into that breach and asked two critical questions. These questions knitted a new community of food producers and food providers. We raised philanthropic funds to meet the needs of the hardest hit, while paying farmers a fair price for their work. And MAFRAC amplified and resourced the people and organizations doing the hard work of feeding people, all along.
